I originally saw Don on October 24, 2000 in response to a prescription
by a physician who specializes in pain control. The initial prescription
stated failed back surgery, the final diagnosis being arachnoiditis.
This 6'6", 230 pound man had his original back surgery in 1987. He
had essentially been in the state he talks about for over 12 years. He
had participated in other programs, but had never reached any goals that
allowed him to increase his activities in life and at least be somewhat
independent.
Other than some modifications for positioning, his initial participation
in SuperSlow differed from no other individual. His program called for
progressive strengthening, using the SuperSlow protocol with attempts
to go to muscle failure. In reality, he had probably not worked as hard
as he has in the department for the last 15 years. The results were miraculous.
The rest is history.
My only hope is that he will continue to improve to the point where he
can not only go out to eat with his wife, but dance!
March 12, 2001
My name is Don and I first started with the SuperSlow Physical Therapy
program with Gary Lindahl on October 24, 2000. Before this program I was
basically housebound. I was able to sit about 1 hr. 20 minutes, with every
30 minutes getting up and walking across the room. I was unable to walk
outside at all or stand for any length of time. I have always tried to
keep a positive outlook which of course under the circumstances was very
difficult at times.
After 4 months of [SuperSlow] exercise, I am now able to sit for 3 hours,
again with walking across the room every 30 minutes. I am still unable
to walk outside on hard surfaces but I can now take short 2-3 minute walks
on the grass. Standing has improved so I am now able to complete a short
activity such as brushing my teeth without sitting down every couple of
minutes.
My outlook is more optimistic than ever because of this [SuperSlow].
On February 24, 2001, I was able to go out to dinner with my wife which
is an activity I was unable to do for many years. My progress may seem
slight to some but to those of us who have suffered with chronic pain
and are unable to do daily activities and lead a normal life this progress
to me is almost a miracle.
Thanks to this program and the expertise and encouragement of Gary Lindahl,
I now have hope and encouragement for a more full and active life.
Update: August 1, 2001
I have continued to make progress in my overall physical health.
The big breakthrough is now being able to drive myself to the SuperSlow
physical therapy program with Gary. From the beginning, back in October
2000, my friend would drive me to Gary's and home again. For the past
month I have been driving myself and it is wonderful to be on my own and
not have to rely on others.
I can shave from start to finish now without having to sit down. I can
walk a little better and stand a little better. But the big change is
being able to drive again.
I believe in taking life one day at a time and to keep building on the
little successes until they turn into big accomplishments.
