Post Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA)
Range Of Motion (ROM) And Strengthening Protocol

Purpose:

  • To increase and/or maintain range of motion attained with MUA.
  • To increase strength in muscle groups associated with joints manipulated.

Pre (MUA) Visit

  • Baseline range of motion session within two weeks prior to scheduled MUA.
  • Supply admittance form, fee schedule and appointment/protocol information.
  • Record active ROM for joints being manipulated.
  • Procedures
    • Three active attempts to endpoint of each motion - range measured on third attempt.
    • Range measured at maximum pain-free endpoint.

First Post MUA Visit

  • 10 to 14 days after third MUA procedure. (Patient to continue to receive manual passive range of motion by chiropractor first two weeks.)
  • Measure and record post MUA joints as performed prior to MUA for comparison.
  • Supply SuperSlow® packet to review and fill out medical analysis sheet.

Subsequent Exercise Sessions

  • Frequency: Two times per week for three weeks, one time per week for four weeks - total 10 visits.
  • Teach home program for flexibility.
  • Start high intensity strength program using the SuperSlowprotocol, targeting areas mobilized.
  • Monitor range endpoint to determine compliance of home program.
  • Record strength increases of appropriate muscle groups.

Final Visits

  • Record final range of motion as recorded first visit.
  • Review long term range of motion program.
  • Review options for long term strength program.
    • Home program if equipment available
    • Gym membership of choice
    • Continue exercise training at Martha Street office (gym membership and/or exercise training paid for personally by individual)

Final Report

Final report on range of motion and strength comparing pre MUA visit, first visit, and final visit of exercise and range of motion sessions.
